Ujamaa Hostel is located in the safe and quiet suburb of Njiro in Arusha, Tanzania. The hostel is within walking distance to a shopping centre, plenty of restaurants and public transport into the centre of Arusha town, which is only 10 minutes drive away.

The dormitories at Ujamaa Hostel range from four to eight beds and are all clean, colourful rooms, but most importantly all bunks are sturdy and secure giving you a great nights sleep whether you prefer the top or bottom bunk! The private double rooms are perfectly set-up for a short or long stay, with a big double bed (with mosquito net) and plenty of storage space including a lockable wardrobe for any personal or valuable belongings.
When you book a stay at Ujamaa Hostel, you can rest easy, knowing that almost everything you could want is included in the room price! Ujamaa Hostel doesn’t just provide a satisfying breakfast, but guests are also treated to nightly communal dinners, complimentary drinking water, tea and coffee and any laundry all at no extra cost! Now that’s what I call good value! |
There is also a fridge and kitchen available for those on a tight budget or travellers who simply enjoy cooking!
With two large living areas and an awesome garden area (complete with three lawn-mowing tortoises!), there is plenty of space for guests to chill out and relax for the afternoon before sitting down to a delicious home-cooked dinner or a drink from the open-air bar in the garden. The living areas have TV’s, a DVD library, books and some classic games for guests to enjoy in their spare time. The shared bathrooms at Ujamaa Hostel are modern, clean and have hot water. There is also a generator for whenever the power cuts out meaning that guests can always have their cameras charged and ready to go on safaris and other activities. |
The easy-going owner, Gasper and the warm smiles of the two staff, Jenny and Agnes, make Ujamaa Hostel truly feel like the home-away-from-home that it is.
Arusha is the perfect base for safari trips to the infamous Serengeti National Park, Ngorongoro Crater or even the looming, snow-capped, Mt Kilimanjaro. Arusha is also a hub for international volunteers who often work on projects at local schools, orphanages, hospitals and villages in the surrounding areas. Ujamaa Hostel in fact has their very own volunteer projects and guests staying for a minimum of two weeks can take their pick of projects depending on their personal skills and interests.
On top of all of these services, Ujamaa Hostel can also organize safaris and day trips to some of the top destinations in the area. And of course, all tours and services are budget friendly, because at the end of the day, Gasper knows his clientele and understands what his guests want from their stay at Ujamaa Hostel.
