The Stay Guesthouse is a small, family run business just 5 minutes drive north of Loei town centre, in the stunning Northeastern Isaan region of Thailand. The owners John and Tai are wonderfully hospitable and welcoming hosts who go out of their way to assist their guests and provide an excellent accommodation option in this small town. The Stay became a real home-away-from-home for us and after staying for almost a week, we still weren't ready to leave!

The Isaan region of Thailand is the least visited area of the country and yet in my opinion it is one of the most beautiful. The people are lovely, the villages are quaint and traditional and the surrounding landscape is a fantastic assortment of farmland, rolling hills and diverse national parks.
The Stay offers three types of rooms for the visiting traveler. All rooms are spacious, have private hot-water bathrooms and come complete with towels, toiletries, fridge and a mini bar (at an extra cost). The rooms also have complimentary tea and coffee and two bottles of water per day. The free Wi-Fi is the best we’ve had in a long time and is available in the rooms, which is always a huge plus when planning your travels. Budget friendly rooms start at 250 Baht for a standard double room with fan or 399 for a standard double room with air-conditioning. As far as budget accommodation goes, The Stay is luxurious by backpacker standards. Although Loei can be quite hot during the days, we stayed in both the standard fan and standard AC room and found that both provided a restful sleep. |

There is also a more spacious deluxe King room that comes with a sitting area, TV and a modern bathroom complete with hot water, a shower and even a bath tub!
The Stay also offers tours, activities and motorbike/bicycle hire as well as all the information and maps you could possibly need about the local area from those who know it best! John and Tai were always available when we needed them and were a wealth of information on the local area, transport options and places to visit. A self-serve laundry with coin-operated washing machines is also available and there are a few mini marts and restaurants within walking distance of The Stay. Loei town centre is an easy 15 minutes walk from the guesthouse. |
Overall, we loved our time at The Stay Guesthouse and really enjoyed the luxury of all the home comforts that are so rare in budget accommodations. For us, it’s the simple things such as a friendly face, a clean and comfortable room and being able to have a cup of tea before bed that really made our stay a memorable one.
