The newly renamed Bluesky Backpacker and Lodge, sits in a quiet street in the picturesque town of Knysna, along South Africa's stunning Garden Route.
The town is perfectly located on the waterfront of Knysna Lagoon and provides a scenic stop over between Cape Town and Port Elizabeth. Blue Sky Backpacker and Lodge is an easy 1 minute drive or 4 minute walk from the centre of Knysna town and parking is available in the quiet cul-de-sac in front of the house.
Your first glimpse of Blue Sky Backpacker is a beautifully maintained wooden house surrounded by a spacious wooden deck with lagoon views. As far as first impressions go, this place looks and feels like a quality B & B!

Upon stepping through the white picket security gate, the inviting in-ground pool greets guests as does Lolly the delightful owner (and possibly her two gorgeous dogs!). Bluesky Backpacker and Lodge caters for backpackers and mature travelers looking for a comfortable place to stay while exploring this quaint seaside town.
Lolly has owned this house for over twenty years and brought up her two children here before recently turning it into the lodge it is today. The rooms range from dormitories and simple twin rooms with shared bathrooms to deluxe rooms with Queen size bed and ensuite bathroom or family rooms complete with queen bed and bunk beds. All rooms are beautifully furnished and most importantly have incredible beds with quality mattress and linen making for a restful sleep every night! |
A simple breakfast of toast, tea and coffee is included in the room rate and a large kitchen is available for guests to cook their own meals or use the outdoor braai.
The spotlessly clean pool is just begging for someone to jump in or if you'd prefer, there are plenty of places to just sit and enjoy a book or the excellent free Wi-Fi in the shade around the pool.
Lolly is always around to give guests ideas on activities in the area or a map to one of her (and now our!) personal favorite places, Jubilee Creek where you can spend hours wandering through the forest to swimming holes or an old abandoned mining town.
Knysna itself is definitely a place you want to spend at least one night of your journey along the garden route. The relaxed centre of town along with the magnificent view from The Heads and the surrounding landscape, make it a beautiful long or short stop over. Just keep in mind that you may find it harder to leave than you first expected!
