LA MER HOSTEL
La Mer Hostel is within the Old City walls of Chiang Mai, close to plenty of local restaurants, right near Somphet local market and within a 10 minute walk to Thapae Gate and the Sunday night walking street.
From our experience, this place is much more of a hotel-style accommodation than a hostel. The building itself is fairly new with a decent priced restaurant downstairs and a small bar serving a few spirits and local beers. The staff were always available and were very accommodating as we continually extended our stay one day at a time!
All rooms are equipped with a private bathroom, TV, air-conditioning and WIFI. The rooms come in standard, superior and deluxe with minor differences in décor and room size. We stayed in a standard double room and it was one of the biggest rooms we’ve stayed in throughout Thailand. The rooms are serviced daily and come with 2 bottles of water per day and complimentary toiletries. There was a great view from our west facing room, where we could see the sunset behind the nearby mountains. For 100 Baht per day, guests at La Mer are also welcome to use the pool at the adjoining Boutique Hotel, Eurana. During our visit, we didn’t get a chance to use this facility, however the pool looks nice and clean and had the weather been better, perhaps we would’ve spent a day around the pool. |
Our only fault of La Mer was that while our bed sheets were changed daily, every set had some sort of stain or tear in them. I am certain they were clean so we didn’t bother telling the reception staff, however it was a little unpleasant to see on our arrival.
Overall, for accommodation of this standard, this was by far the best value we found during our time in Chiang Mai.
